With MYRemote Performance, Axis Electronics gets an extra 10%

After becoming one of the first UK users of MYDATA’s new MYRemote Performance SMT process optimisation service, Axis Electronics, a leading provider of electronic manufacturing services for complex high-mix PCB assemblies, is consistently achieving productivity gains of 10% and more from its MYDATA MY9 and MY12 pick-and-place machines.

MYRemote Performance works with data from the machine’s error and utilisation logs, and also from the package and part libraries. This data is transmitted regularly to MYDATA by email, where it is analysed within seven days by the company’s experts. Based on this analysis, they produce a report with detailed recommendations for enhancing performance, which is delivered to the client by email.

MYDATA follows up every MYRemote Performance report by contacting the client to ensure that the recommendations are clear, and that the client has no problems with implementing them.

“Like every other user of SMT equipment, we want to get the most out of our machines,” said Matt Turner, Axis Electronics Engineering Manager, “and we knew that making good use of the machine data was the key. Finding time to do the necessary analysis in house was, however, difficult as there were always more pressing matters to deal with. As a result, when MYDATA told us about its new service, it appealed to us instantly.”

“In fact, we also anticipated another benefit. The MYDATA engineers would look at our machine operation with fresh eyes. It’s all too easy, when you work with machines every day to start taking for granted small problems that, if addressed, would lead to useful productivity gains.”

Axis Electronics finds the MYRemote Monitoring reports to be both useful and immediately usable. Typical recommendations include using a different tool for a particular package style, adjusting the pick wait time, modifying lead lengths and fine-tuning position feedback.

On receipt, the reports are sent to line technicians responsible for operating the MYDATA machines, who ensure that they are happy with the recommendations before they implement them. Any comments are fed back to MYDATA, and are taken into account in the formulation of future recommendations.

“All of the recommendations we’ve received to date have been very accurate and very valid,” said Matt Turner, “and, by implementing them we’ve been able to significantly reduce our rate of dropped/dumped components, and also to increase the throughput of our machines by an average of at least 10%.”

“We’re are more than satisfied with the MYRemote Monitoring service, and we have absolutely no hesitation in saying that it offers excellent value for money. In fact, it would be hard to find a more cost-effective and convenient way of getting more out of your SMT installation!”
