Megger’s got tough solutions for structured cable testing

Fast dependable certification for Category 5e, 6, 6a and 7 structured cabling installations is easy to achieve with the products in Megger’s new SCT range of structured cabling testers, and the response from the early users of these innovative testers has been uniformly enthusiastic.

Singled out for particular comment are the wide range of adaptors and their easy interchangeability, the integrated fiber optic VFL (visual fault locator) and dual-mode fiber optic wavelengths, the easy-to-use project management software, and the clear informative color display.

Typical of the comments received from users is the response from Sylvain Charuest, Senior Consultant at SEDECO Inc., one of Canada’s foremost suppliers of business telecommunications systems. “The SCT2000 is a robust instrument that will stand up very well to tough site conditions,” he said. “It’s also easy to use, and it covers a wide range of test requirements. Overall, I’m very happy with the instrument, and I would not hesitate to recommend it to other users.”

As the comments from Sylvain Charuset confirm, the operation of the SCT series of testers is optimized for intuitive and speedy operation. Certification is a straightforward process initiated by pressing just two buttons – ‘TEST’ to begin and ‘enter’ to save results. The instrument displays all of the essential test data in a single menu, eliminating unnecessary menu changes that can slow down testing.

The instruments support the use of project-based data, with each project containing all of the information needed for certification. The risk of common setup errors when switching between jobs is, therefore, eliminated.

Megger’s new SCT structured cabling certification testers have been designed from the outset to offer long reliable service under the toughest of site conditions.

They combine rugged construction with a novel connector-less adaptor system that practically eliminates downtime due to connector damage between the main unit and adapters which is a common problem with other types of testers.  The patented the connector-less system is also field replaceable just in the event that it could be damaged, this ability is unique to the Megger SCT.

Megger SCT cable testers also incorporate powerful diagnostic tools. These tools speed up the location of the faults which have led to test failures by displaying the length to the single maximum cable disturbance, the length to each pairs maximum disturbance or a graph of all disturbances on all pairs.

The instruments exceed Level IV accuracy and has a 1 to 1,000 Mhz frequency range, utilizing true vector measurements that greatly increases the accuracy and capability of the instrument.

SCT testers support all specified certification tests, including wire map, delay, delay skew, length, DC resistance, insertion loss, return loss, NEXT, power sum NEXT, attenuation cross-talk ratio far (ACRF), power sum ACRF,, attenuation cross-talk ratio (ACR) and power sum ACR.

To complement its new SCT structured cable testers, Megger is offering its LCMD PC-based results management software package. LCMD features intuitive operation, providing exceptionally powerful results viewing and sorting capability.  Finally LCMD will generate both printed and electronic reports in multiple formats.
